Voter ID Super Saturday July 12
SD-45 & CD-5 Republicans are asked to help with Voter ID Saturday, July 12 for a 2 or 3-hour shift (or as long as you can).

This statewide initiative will help register and identify more Republican voters - literally finding more votes to turn out on Election Day in Minnesota. The results of this effort will directly benefit EVERY Republican candidate on the ballot this year. Please help us by joining us at the CD-5 office to make calls or door-knock, where we will give you all the tools you will need help identify more Republicans. Most importantly, please reach out to friends and family who would also like to help and let’s make this a group effort.

If you are available to join us for a couple of hours July 12, please stop by for a shift that fits your schedule.

Shifts: 10:00, Noon, 2:00 pm

CD-5's campaign office is located at 1405 N. Lilac Drive #210 in Golden Valley (near Byerly's). Contact Scott Brooks for more information or to sign up for a shift.

April Chili & Chat - Health Care Highlights

ImageOur first Chili & Chat of the the year was held April 17 in New Hope, with the timely topic of health care. Legislation is moving forward in the State Capitol, many items people aren't aware of. Speaking to these issues were Twila Brase, RN , president of Citizens Council on Health Care, Rep. Tom Emmer , House Deputy Minority Leader, and Karen Effrem, MD, Pediatrician and Policy Analyst. Emceeing the event was SD45B House Candidate Gregg Prest .

Twila Brase gave a brief "Health Care 101" with a history of Medicaid and how it's affected health care. She followed with CCHC's push to demand consent for genetic testing and infant blood screening, which the State Department of Health is against.

Rep. Tom Emmer followed with a legislative update on health care reform, and discussed the task force and special interest groups who stand to gain more from socialized medicine than the people it purports to help.

Karen Effrem, MD wrapped it up with an eye-opening account of mental health screening and disturbing trends to monitor citizens from cradle to grave, along with a host of medicines pushed on our children.

The panel stayed for an interesting question and answer session, including how to protect your medical privacy and where to go to make your voice and concerns heard.

NW Cable Television will be airing an edited one-hour program in May.

April Fools' Day Gift From The DFL: Higher Taxes

Delano GOP Rep. Tom Emmer submitted this excellent and timely opinion piece in the StarTribune:

"We are a very fiscally moderate caucus."

MARGARET ANDERSON-KELLIHER, NOV. 9, 2006

Those seven words from then soon-to-be House Speaker Margaret Anderson-Kelliher came two days after Election Day 2006. Echoing the professed sentiments of more than two dozen newly elected rural and suburban Democrats, Kelliher's statement no doubt felt reassuring to the Minnesotans who took Minnesota Democrats at their word when they claimed, throughout the 2006 election season, to carry the mantle of fiscal responsibility and balanced priorities.

Minnesotans wanted change; Democrats wanted their votes. On Nov. 9, 2006, each seemed to have gotten what it wanted.

But here we are on April Fools' Day 2008, and clearly the joke is on us. Starting today, hard-working Minnesotans trying to get through tough times will pay the first in a series of tax increases imposed by Minnesota Democrats who tossed aside their pledges of moderation and common-sense priorities like Election Day's smelly laundry.
