Leadership Roles Print E-mail

District officers, leaders and delegates work to identify, and help elect, endorsed Republicans, and to strengthen our district (BPOU). Officers are elected at conventions — Delegates, Alternates and Precinct Chairs are elected at Caucus. We provide training and assistance — you are the key to helping candidates win!

SD 45 Leadership Objectives

  • Identify and elect Strong SD45 leaders
    • Seek people with leadership potential and invite them to participate
    • Define roles and people who will fulfill these roles
  • Identify and support strong candidates at every level
  • Determine methods to identify and stay in contact with grassroots
    • Voter ID, issue ID forums, coffee meets, neighborhood events, etc.
    • Letters to the editor, talk radio, blogs, social networking
    • Database and coordination with Project Phoenix

Senate District Chair/Co-Chairs (2-year term, elected in off-year conventions):

  • Attend the leadership workshops and training sessions
  • Know the district geographically and politically by studying maps and previous voting records
  • Conduct BPOU meetings on a regular basis
  • Plan and develop a BPOU calendar, setting goals
  • Develop a BPOU budget
  • Cooperate with other BPOUs in your legislative district(s) and congressional district(s).
  • Appoint standing committees to seek out and recruit legislative candidates as well as support incumbents
  • Promote Republican-endorsed candidates and elected officials
  • If a delegate, attend conventions
  • Oversee Party functions in your BPOU

Secretary (2-year term, elected in off-year conventions):

  • Attend and keep minutes of the BPOU meetings and send copies to officers
  • Prepare and mail meeting notices for BPOU meetings
  • Help with other projects
  • Maintain BPOU lists
  • Assist with communications

Treasurer/Deputy Treasurer (2-year term, elected in off-year conventions):

  • Keep accurate financial records for the BPOU
  • Provide a report to the BPOU at regular meetings
  • Provide a year-end report to the BPOU
  • Provide the Campaign Finance Board with reports as required by law
  • Attend all BPOU meetings
  • Provide reports to State Party as required

A & B-Side District Chairs and Vice Chair Roles (2-year term, elected in off-year conventions. Vice Chairs may be elected at Executive Meetings)

  • Serve as grass roots leader of the precinct for Senate District 45 Republicans
  • Maintain contact with precinct delegates and alternates, and coordinate (or assist in execution of) volunteer activities
  • Contribute to the BPOU by helping to
    • identify volunteers (phoning / door knocking)
    • assist with voter contact activities (Letters to the Editor, public forums)
    • perform get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts
    • give financial support for the senate district
  • Serve on SD45 committees that promote getting Republicans elected; identify Republican voters in the district
  • Attend BPOU meetings

Delegate and Alternate Roles (2-year term, elected in even-year precinct caucuses. State Central elected in off-year conventions)

  • Attend conventions (State Central delegates attend statewide meetings and elect state party leadership)
  • Pre-register when possible, arrive early to read packet of registration materials and stay as long as needed to finish the business of the day
  • Notify precinct chair for either “yes” or “no” attendance at the BPOU Convention
  • Help to elect BPOU (senate/house district) officers
  • Endorse candidates and help get them elected
  • Vote for delegates/alternates to Congressional District and State Conventions and to State Central
  • Vote on resolutions to help the process of developing the State Party Platform
  • Serve on SD45 committees that promote getting Republicans elected;  identify Republican voters in the district

District Full Committee Member (elected in off-year conventions:

  • Attend committee meetings organized by your congressional district executive committee
  • Volunteer or assist with sub-committee roles (e.g. candidate search, campaign strategy, public relations, etc.)
  • Report on BPOU activities, discuss and vote on motions (e.g. funding for candidate campaigns)
