Help keep jobs in Minnesota Print E-mail

From LookTrueNorth:

As eager graduates seek employment, they'll be competing with the many frustrated unemployed in our state. It will get worse if employers lose incentive to stay:

Dim lights

Rep. King Banaian (15B) points to a Wall Street Journal article warning Illinois and other states that higher taxes mean fewer wealthy residents—as Maryland discovered the hard way (emphasis mine):

A Bank of America Merrill Lynch analysis of federal tax return data on people who migrated from one state to another found that Maryland lost $1 billion of its net tax base in 2008 by residents moving to other states. That's income that's now being taxed and is financing services in Virginia, South Carolina and elsewhere.

Millionaires like Gov. Dayton place their investments out of state to protect their wealth. Given the choice (and the evidence), they'll move to a more tax-friendly states along with businesses. Job-seeking Minnesotans have little choice but to follow them. Dayton's plan for more government jobs aren't sustainable and will be temporary. Call his office at 651-201-3400 (toll-free 800-657-3717) and ask him not to repeat an expensive mistake like Maryland.
