Via Politics in Minnesota:
Kelly Fenton won a five-candidate contest on Saturday to become the state Republican Party’s new deputy chair.
Following the resignation of chair Tony Sutton less than 24 hours earlier, Fenton will serve as the party’s top official until an election for chair is held. The contest for Sutton’s seat must occur within 30 days.
Fenton won on the second ballot, receiving 173 votes, or 54 percent of all ballots cast. Former state Rep. Pete Nelson finished a distant second, collecting 93 votes on the second ballot. The rest of the field: Bill Jungbauer (23 votes), Scott Anderson (17 votes) and Corey Sax (14 votes).
Kelly responded on her Facebook page:
Thank you! Thank you for the confidence you have placed in me by electing me as your Deputy Chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota. I am honored to have been selected. You have proven once again that it is the grassroots members of our Party that will help to move us forward.
As promised I'm already hard at work, and there is much to do. First, I can assure you that it is my goal to bring stability, vision and common sense to the process of electing a new Party Chair. I also look forward to raising money and organizing the grassroots activists to help maintain our majorities in the Minnesota Legislature, and to elect other Republican candidates. While I may not have all the answers immediately, I will remain available to you for your questions, your concerns and your ideas. You will be able to reach me at the State Party offices, as well as the other ways that have helped us to connect in the past. ...by Phone: (651) 283-3011 ...by Email:
